What the successful TV entrepreneur, Oprah Winfrey, in her quote says is what I experience in my work every day: Everyone possesses special skills. However, it is often hard to see for ourselves, express it or has become so ingrained that we don’t notice it anymore.

Because when you follow your inner-self work becomes easier for you and you are more productive. What is authentic communications?

Clear, honest and true communication towards your employees as well as your target groups – that is authentic communication.

When you are authentic you are convincing, credible and you can build long-term trust for your employees and clients.

You are authentic when you know who you are and act upon that – you personally as an entrepreneur as well as your company. To achieve this it is important that you know yourself and your company well. You should recognize the favorite parts of your job, which strengths you have, but also which challenges you face. Crucial for the success of your company is that you understand your target groups and their characteristics; know precisely which true benefits your products and services have and which content you would like to convey. Communicating authentically means to tell your clients how actually useful, helpful and valuable your products and services are for them – nothing exaggerated or imaginary.

 

From my experience, I can assure you that all my clients and their companies are so fabulous with what they do that they do not have the need to present themselves as bigger and more pompous. The reason is that they are amazing as they are, they just have to push this to the forefront of their communication work.

 

Recognising this can be quite difficult for people as the proverb “to hide one’s light under a bushel” says. I support you on this matter as a communications specialist with my own journalistic and psychological background.

 

I am often asked if I do authentic communications for people or companies. My response is always: both. First we focus on you as an entrepreneur and based on that we focus on your company.

Method

Over the past six years, I have developed a method where together we carve out in workshops your “authentic self” as an entrepreneur and create your authentic communications. This process involves me coming to your company for two to three workshops of about four hours each.

 

We will begin with you, the individual, as a human and an entrepreneur. As a leader, your own motivation and fulfillment are crucial for the success of your business. Then, for your company we will focus on its strengths and benefits. With this foundation we will develop your company’s communications strategy, which I will implement eventually.

The first step we take is to prepare your personal positioning. This is about you as an individual and your entrepreneurial personality – Who are you? What are your skills? What do you love to do? We will find out in personal workshops. You will feel it once you have found your authentic self and say “Yes, that’s exactly it!” I will make all the results of our workshops visible to you. To be a good entrepreneur and leader you should be happy with what you do and be absolutely convinced about it because a bad mood can foster frustration among your employees and can cost your business real money and value.

The second step is to position your business. Again in joint workshops we will find the target groups, strengths, USPs, challenges, desires and goals you have for your company. I will help you realize and phrase them. From these workshops I will develop your positioning and put it in writing. That way you see the soul of your business in black and white. We will review all aspects thoroughly and change details until you again say “Yes, that’s exactly it!”

 

This two-step positioning process is crucial for your authentic communications work. Only then you will know who you yourself really are and where you want to go with your business. This process is as important to me that I know who you are, what makes your company special, which goals and target groups you have. These aspects are decisive for the development of your communications strategy and its implementation, and with it, we will understand how to communicate you and your business. We all know – you have to speak differently to experts in your industry than to your customer.
